Board of Directors

Corporate Structure

Trillium Mutual Insurance Company is currently governed by a Board of Directors of nine. The Board meets monthly or more often as required. Three Board members are elected for a three year term each year at the Company's Annual Meeting.

The company's Annual Meeting is held in March of each year and a President and Vice-President are selected from the Board of Directors. These offices are filled by election each year. The Board of Directors reviews the company's operation on a monthly basis, setting various company policies such as rates, products as well as appointment of new brokers, etc. They employ the General Manager/CEO who is then responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company and put into place the action given by the Board of Directors.

Ross Stone - Chair

Ross joined the Board of Directors in 2007. He is a graduate of the University of Guelph, Ontario Agricultural College and has broad knowledge and experience in agriculture and agri-business in the specific areas of supply and service. He is the Managing Partner of Perth Ag Partners located in East Perth. Ross and his family reside on the Stone homestead in East Perth.

Ben Rier - Vice Chair

Ben and his family currently reside in the town of Tara. Ben received his Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University in 1986 and is Part Owner/President of Penner Farm Services in Tara. Penner provides equipment and services to dairy, pork, beef and cash crop farmers and has four locations across Ontario. In his spare time, Ben is actively involved in Harness Racing. He is the past President and current active member of the Tara Rotary Club and is also a past member of Canada East Equipment Dealers Board of Directors.

Karen Galbraith - Past Chair

Karen joined the Board of Directors in 1994. She is a Veterinarian and dairy farmer in the Atwood area. Presently she is member of the Ausable Bayfied Maitland Valley Source Water Protection Committee. Volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters keeps her in touch with the youth. She was active in dairy producer committees and the past president of Perth Care for Kids in Mitchell.

George Heisz

George Heisz joined the Board of Trillium Mutual Insurance in January 2010. George worked for BMO Bank of Montreal for over 34 years. During his career, he held several managerial positions throughout southern Ontario, including several senior management posts in the Grey-Bruce and Huron-Perth Areas. Prior to retiring from BMO in October 2008, George had been Vice President of the Bank's Hamilton Ontario District for 10 years. George is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Dalhousie University. George and his wife Brenda live in Stratford and have 5 adult children.

Gordon Jack

Gordon joined the Board of Directors in 1987. Following his graduation from the University of Guelph with a B. Sc. (Agr.) and M. Sc., he worked for Alberta Agriculture as a Livestock Nutritionist. He returned to Ontario to run the family feed business, and this led to becoming a full time pork producer in the Newton area. He has been very involved in the pork industry through the Perth County Pork Producers Association and leading 4H swine clubs. Gordon has also been involved as a church representative on the Milverton area Canadian Foodgrains Bank growing project.

Ken Schaus

Ken joined the Board of Directors early in 2010. He is a partner of the Schaus group of companies. This is a local business which feed’s cattle, handles cattle, and orders and buys cattle with the majority of its business in Bruce County. The Schaus group of companies is a family run business which employs about 30 people. Ken has been in the business for 25 years. Ken and his wife reside in Carrick Township with their 2 daughters.

Len Metcalfe

Len has served as a member of the Board of Directors since 1980. He has been a licensed Auctioneer since 1965, President of Len Metcalfe Auction Ltd., Mildmay and a Personal Property Appraiser. Len was thrilled to receive the Championship Award from the Auctioneers Association of Ontario in 1996 and served as it's President in 2009. He has been the Chairman of two Mildmay-Carrick Homecomings and is currently a Director of Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce Inc.

Murray Scholl

Murray graduated with an agricultural degree from the University of Guelph in 1985. He joined the Board of Directors in 1990. Having been active on area community boards and minor sports committees, Murray also completed a county leadership program. He has an extensive career in agriculture, from farming to managing a grain elevator. Murray is currently a dairy sales representative, living in Ilderton and takes an active interest in his three sons.

Scott Cumming

Scott is the newest member of the Board of Directors. He graduated from Conestoga College in 1993 with a Business Management/Accounting diploma. After many years of working at a senior management level with two different companies, Scott and his wife, Mary-Lynn purchased the business of L. A. Barclay Wholesale Ltd in the fall of 2010. This business is a wholesale supplier of commercial/industrial and household cleaning products supplying mainly the Bruce/Grey area but stretching out to other parts of Southwestern Ontario. Scott is very active in the community with the Bruce Shrine Club (2011 President), Aldworth Masonic Lodge (Master 2005) and local sports with his children. Scott was born and raised in Arran-Elderslie and still resides on a family farm with his wife, son and daughter.
